Former Ekiti Governor Ayo Fayose says his loyalty to the PDP did not stop him from openly supporting Bola Tinubu in 2023.
Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, has accused former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Senator Aminu Tambuwal, and PDP National Chairman Iyorchia Ayu of destroying the party.
Speaking on Channels Television’s PoliticsToday on Friday, Fayose said:
“Atiku destroyed the PDP, Tambuwal destroyed the PDP, and Ayu destroyed it. Politics is not fair; life itself is not balanced.”
Despite his long-standing loyalty to the party, Fayose said he was transparent about supporting Bola Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election.
“Everybody stands where they will be able to say the truth to Nigerians. I am not contesting elections, and I have not asked anybody for favours. Openly, I supported Asiwaju Tinubu in 2023, and I didn’t hide it. Till now, I am still there. I didn’t jump. I have said it to you, I am not a member of the APC, and I will never be,” he said.
Fayose also commented on political tensions in Rivers State, noting that he never saw a rift between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, and cautioned Wike to be careful.
PDP Crises
The PDP has faced internal crises that reshaped its political landscape. At the heart of the conflict were Atiku Abubakar, Tambuwal, and Ayu, stemming from the May 2022 presidential primaries.
Tambuwal withdrew and endorsed Atiku, securing the nomination, but Wike and other governors demanded Ayu’s resignation, accusing him of undermining southern representation and fairness. The refusal of Ayu to step down created legitimacy issues that persisted through the 2023 elections and continue into the party’s 2026 deadlock.
