NDC mobilisation march disrupted in Effurun Delta State
Oborevwori orders a probe after a reported confrontation disrupted an NDC mobilisation march in Effurun, Delta State.
The incident occurred during the party’s “one million march” for its candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to reports, NDC supporters were marching along Airport Road in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area, when a confrontation reportedly broke out between the campaigners and a group of men alleged by organisers to be political thugs linked to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Videos circulating online appeared to show a chaotic scene involving some NDC supporters and other individuals, with some people seen carrying sticks.
However, the allegations surrounding those involved have not been independently established.
The Delta State Government has condemned the reported incident and reaffirmed that political parties and candidates should be allowed to campaign peacefully across the state.
Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, said Governor Sheriff Oborevwori had directed security agencies to investigate the incident and ensure that anyone found responsible faces the law.
Aniagwu said the government was particularly concerned about videos of the confrontation circulating online.
He stressed that political activities should not degenerate into violence, thuggery or intimidation, adding that no political party would be prevented from campaigning anywhere in Delta State as long as its activities remain peaceful and within the law.
As of the time of publication, there was no official statement from the Delta State Police Command cited in the report regarding the incident.
The development comes as political parties and candidates intensify mobilisation activities ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
