INEC Confirms 18 Presidential Candidates For 2027 Election

INEC 2027 presidential candidates list

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed 18 presidential candidates and their running mates for Nigeria’s 2027 general election.

The list includes President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Peter Obi of the New Democratic Congress (NDC), and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), among other candidates.

The publication of the list provides a clearer picture of the presidential field ahead of the election.

However, political discussions and negotiations among parties and individual politicians are continuing, with some opposition figures maintaining contacts across party lines.

Obi and Makinde, for example, have appeared together publicly in recent days. Both politicians have, however, played down suggestions that their meetings automatically amount to a formal alliance.

The formal nomination of candidates does not prevent political parties or politicians from holding discussions about cooperation, but any future arrangement would have to take account of existing candidates, party structures and their supporters.

INEC’s official election timetable lists the presidential and National Assembly elections for January 2027, with campaigns and other electoral activities scheduled ahead of polling day.

As the political season progresses, parties and candidates are expected to focus increasingly on their campaigns, policy positions, voter engagement and mobilisation.
