NCAA Fines RwandAir ₦15m Over Passenger Baggage Complaint

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has sanctioned RwandAir ₦15 million over a consumer protection violation involving a passenger’s damaged baggage.

The sanction was announced by Michael Achimugu, the NCAA spokesperson, in a post on his personal X account on Friday.

According to the NCAA, RwandAir was fined for failing to resolve the passenger’s baggage complaint within the stipulated timeframe.

The action was taken under Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations 2023, which provides for consumer protection in air travel, compensation and other remedies for passengers affected by baggage-related issues.

In addition to the ₦15 million fine, the NCAA directed RwandAir to replace the passenger’s damaged bag and pay $170 as first-need compensation.

The NCAA said the sanction underscores the importance of airlines addressing passenger complaints promptly and complying with consumer protection regulations.

The case highlights the regulatory measures available to address consumer complaints involving airlines operating in Nigeria.

Passengers experiencing baggage-related problems can report their complaints through the appropriate channels and seek remedies provided under applicable aviation regulations.
