₦34 million cash intercepted by Nigeria Immigration Service in Adamawa
Immigration ₦34m case: The Nigeria Immigration Service has intercepted two men in Adamawa State with ₦34 million in cash, after they allegedly said the money was intended to pay ransom for their abducted brother.
The suspects were intercepted during an operation in the state, according to the Adamawa State Comptroller of Immigration, Sani Sule-Jega.
Sule-Jega disclosed the development during a media briefing in Yola, saying preliminary investigations were ongoing into the circumstances surrounding the money.
The NIS has not established that the cash was actually ransom money, but said the suspects claimed it was intended for the release of their abducted brother.
In a separate operation, the Adamawa State Command of the NIS intercepted 17 irregular migrants at a private three-bedroom residence in Rumde Baruw, Yola North Local Government Area.
The group comprised 13 Cameroonian nationals — eight males and five females — and four Chadian nationals, all male, according to preliminary profiling by the immigration authorities.
Sule-Jega said the use of private and unregistered apartments by undocumented migrants was becoming a growing concern, noting a shift from the previous pattern of staying mainly in conventional lodging facilities such as hotels.
He said the command was intensifying surveillance and intelligence-led operations to identify and address emerging patterns of irregular migration in the state.
The suspects and the recovered cash were taken into custody for further investigation and necessary action, according to the NIS.
The command also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide credible information that could assist security agencies in maintaining peace and security across Adamawa State.
