Abia Governor Alex Otti assures IPOB leader that efforts to secure his freedom are ongoing.
Abia State Governor Alex Otti on Sunday paid a visit to the detained Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu, at the Sokoto Correctional Centre. The governor assured Kanu that efforts to secure his release were ongoing.
Otti was accompanied by Kanu’s younger brother, Emmanuel Kanu; the Abia State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Ikechukwu Uwanna (SAN); and his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma. Officials from the Sokoto State Government were also present.
After the visit, Ekeoma shared that Governor Otti encouraged Kanu to stay strong, noting that engagement efforts initiated more than two years ago had intensified. The governor expressed confidence that Kanu would regain his freedom soon through administrative means.
Otti also informed Kanu that the Sultan of Sokoto had shown support for a peaceful resolution of the matter. Ekeoma added that the governor jokingly mentioned the Sultan had remarked Kanu was now his “subject” and would be turbaned, eliciting laughter from the IPOB leader.
During the visit, Kanu, who was reported to be in high spirits, thanked the governor for the gesture. He also commended the progress in Abia State and encouraged Otti to continue prioritising good governance for the benefit of the people. Kanu concluded by praying for the governor and his team.
