The Nigerian Army says the arrest demonstrates the success of ongoing clearance operations targeting criminal syndicates across southern Taraba.
Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have arrested a suspected kidnapper in Taraba State as part of intensified security operations in the region.
The suspect, identified as Abubakar Bawa, was apprehended while allegedly attempting to flee Wukari Local Government Area, according to a statement issued by the Brigade’s Public Relations Officer, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad.
The arrest is linked to Operation Zafin Wuta, a clearance operation designed to track down and dismantle criminal groups responsible for kidnappings and attacks in southern Taraba.
Investigators revealed that Bawa is believed to be a close associate of Umar Musa, an alleged kidnapping mastermind earlier arrested by 6 Brigade troops on November 22, 2025.
The Army said preliminary findings point to strong connections between the two suspects and a broader network implicated in multiple abductions and violent crimes across the state.
Commander of the 6 Brigade/Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa, praised the troops for their professionalism, stating that the latest arrest underscores the effectiveness of ongoing operations.
“This is a clear indication that Operation Zafin Wuta is achieving its objective of dismantling criminal syndicates and restoring security to affected communities,” he said.
General Uwa reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to sustaining the momentum of the operations, stressing that no criminal element will escape justice.
“The Nigerian Army remains committed to eliminating all criminal threats and restoring lasting peace in southern Taraba,” the statement added.
Residents were urged to remain vigilant and continue providing credible information to aid security agencies.
The suspect is currently in custody as further investigations continue.
