Abia APC calls for transparency in project funding
The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on the Labour Party-led state government to provide greater transparency in the publication of project costs, contract details and other information on public spending.
In a statement issued in Umuahia, the Acting Publicity Secretary of the Abia APC, Prince Ifeanyi Igwe, commended the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as greater openness in disclosing details of federal infrastructure projects.
Igwe said the publication of project figures, specifications and scopes provides citizens with information about how public funds are being allocated and spent.
He referred to Federal Executive Council activities in November 2025 and cited several federal infrastructure projects, including the Sokoto–Badagry Coastal Superhighway, the Ota–Idiroko Road and Flyover Project, and the revised cost of the Ijebu Igbo–Etapa–Owoyen Road.
The APC official said other projects disclosed by the Federal Government cover several states, including Lagos, Ogun, Kwara, Kaduna, Enugu and Rivers.
According to Igwe, similar disclosure by the Abia State Government would allow residents to better understand the costs, scope and contractors involved in major projects being executed with public funds.
“This is the kind of transparency Abians deserve from their government. Citizens should know what projects are awarded, at what cost, and to which contractors,” he said.
The APC further urged the state government to provide detailed information on major projects and the funds committed to them.
The party argued that greater disclosure would strengthen public accountability and allow residents to monitor the use of government resources.
The statement reflects the Abia APC’s position on transparency and public spending. The state government had not been quoted in the statement responding specifically to the party’s latest call.
