Authorities confirmed that popular Yoruba Fuji musician Abbas Akande Obesere was assaulted during the event.
Ondo State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with a violent attack and robbery at a burial ceremony held at the Government Field in Okitipupa.
The Public Relations Officer of the command, Olusola Ayanlade, disclosed in a statement on Sunday that credible intelligence indicated popular Yoruba Fuji musician Abbas Akande Obesere was assaulted during the event.
“Investigations revealed that on November 21, 2025, a group of suspected hoodlums led by Michael Abbey, popularly known as ‘Emir,’ attacked the musician while he was performing,” Ayanlade said.
During the assault, the suspects reportedly stole a bag containing ₦4,000,000, along with a gold chain, handset, and wristwatch. The situation escalated when the musician’s manager was injured on the hand after being stabbed with a broken bottle while trying to intervene.
Two key suspects – Michael Abbey a.k.a “Emir” and Oniye Oke – were apprehended and have confessed to their involvement. Authorities also recovered ₦479,100 from them, part of the stolen proceeds.
Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, assured the public that all individuals involved will be brought to justice.
Ayanlade emphasised that the police remain committed to protecting lives and property and maintaining a secure environment for all residents of Ondo State.
