The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has challenged the Labour Party–led government in the state to adopt a higher level of transparency in the publication of project costs and contract details—just as recently demonstrated by the Federal Government.
In a statement released in Umuahia, the Acting Publicity Secretary of the APC in Abia State, Prince Ifeanyi Igwe, Esq, commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for openly publishing contract figures, specifications, and scopes of newly approved and ongoing federal projects nationwide.
Igwe said the move reflects a strong commitment to accountability and public trust, adding that the Federal Executive Council’s approvals of November 6, 2025, underscore a governance model rooted in openness and responsible public spending.
He highlighted several major projects disclosed by the Federal Government, including:
- Sokoto–Badagry Coastal Superhighway (Section 3, 163km) – ₦553 billion
- Ota–Idiroko Road and Flyover Project – ₦121 billion
- Revised Cost for Ijebu Igbo–Etapa–Owoyen Road (37km) – ₦53 billion
Other disclosed projects cut across Lagos, Ogun, Kwara, Kaduna, Enugu, and Rivers States.
According to Igwe, this level of openness has strengthened public confidence in federal governance and provided clarity on how taxpayers’ funds are being utilized.
“This is the kind of transparency Abians deserve from their government. Citizens should know what projects are awarded, at what cost, and to which contractors,” he stated.
The party insisted that with billions allocated to various projects in Abia, the state government has a responsibility to fully disclose costs and contract details to ensure public funds are properly managed.
Igwe maintained that transparency is a fundamental pillar of democracy and urged the Abia State Government to adopt similar practices if it claims to be serving the interests of the people.
